Believed to date back some 400 years, this impressive detached country house has wonderful high ceilings and has been modernised in recent years to create a fine country property suited to modern day living. The construction is largely of thick stone walls with brick sections, and a hipped slate roof with brick chimney stacks. There is a vast cellar with windows and ground level external doors which provides plentiful storage and could be used as a workshop. 18th century additions include an elegant panelled front door with fanlight window above and two bay windows at the front of the property.
The accommodation extends to 3,364 square feet and is arranged over two floors with magnificent proportions, particularly in principle rooms, which also enjoy a dual aspect. There are two staircases which enables flexible accommodation that would suit families, multigenerational families or those looking for separate space for guests or family. There are numerous original features throughout the property, including substantial exposed beams, fine stone flooring and impressive fireplaces.
Historically the property was the principle farmhouse of the area, today the traditional neighbouring outbuildings have been converted into separate dwellings forming the small rural hamlet of Avenbury. It occupies an elevated position on the western slopes of the Frome valley, providing stunning views across the peaceful and unspoilt countryside towards the distant Malvern Hills.
Sitting within approximately 4.37 acres in all, the property offers excellent equestrian opportunities with quiet country lanes suited to outriding. The land is gently sloped and parcelled into three paddocks of varying size. In addition there is a small orchard, holding paddock with field shelters, pretty stone walled pond and an area with a poly tunnel suited as a vegetable garden.
The gardens to the front and rear of the house are level thanks to retaining stone walls at the front and a stone walled ha-ha at the rear. The private rear garden benefits from a timber summer house and gravelled terrace. There is also a decked bbq area and a space currently used for kennels. There are driveways at both ends of the property with the main driveway leading to further parking and gates to the paddocks.
The market town of Bromyard lies just 1.5 miles north and can be accessed via a public footpath opposite the property. Bromyard provides a wide range of amenities including shops, supermarkets, public houses, banks, doctors surgeries and schools. The Cathedral cities of Hereford and Worcester provide wider amenities and are equidistant, as is the market town of Leominster.
